David is a virtuoso musician who has performed, recorded and toured nationally and internationally for over 40 years, in the genres of rock and pop, jazz, classical, ambient, world music, cabaret, theatre, television and improvised works. He is also renowned for his solo performances on drumkit and percussion.
A regular guest artist with Australia’s Symphony Orchestras, he was honoured by composer Toshi Watanabe who wrote a Drum Concerto especially for him, which premiered in Japan in 2006.
David’s career achievements were acknowledged in 2010 when he was the recipient of the prestigious Melbourne Prize for Music Award.
In 2013 he was made Honorary Fellow at the Victorian College of the Arts and in 2015 he joined the staff of the James Morrison Academy of Music in Mt Gambier.
Since 1984, David has uniquely combined his meditation practice with his art, adding Tibetan, Japanese and crystal bowls alongside his drum kit to produce beautiful rhythm-based music. With his partner Carmen Warrington, he has created many guided meditation CDs including the “Meditations for Life” series which was commissioned by ABC Music.
